Terms of Use

Last updated 2026-10-06

The short version

  • Your rides, bikes and photos stay yours. We keep and show them only as you choose.
  • Be decent to other riders. Harassment, hate, and illegal content will get removed, along with your account.
  • Velo helps you track maintenance, but it can't see your bike. Check your equipment yourself before you ride.
  • Velo is free while in beta. Velo reserves the right to change anything as they see fit, and occasional malfunctions may occur.

1. Who we are

Velo is a cycling app for iPhone and the service it connects to at ridevelo.app. It is run by Benny Bergle ("we", "us"). These terms are an agreement between you and us. By creating an account or using Velo, you agree to the terms and the Privacy Policy.

2. Who can use Velo

You must be at least 13 years old, or meet any higher minimum age required by local law to use this service without parental consent. You need an Apple ID to sign in. One account per person; keep your phone and Apple ID secure, as anyone who has access to them can use your account.

3. Your content

Your rides, FIT files, photos, bike and maintenance records, captions and profile ("your content") belong to you. To run the service you give us a limited licence to store, copy, process and display your content, only to provide Velo to you and to show the people you choose what you have shared with them. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in encrypted backups, which expire on their normal schedule.

You are responsible for what you post. Only upload photos and text you have the right to share, and don't post other people's personal information without their permission.

4. Sharing, followers and live tracking

5. Rules for using Velo

Don't use Velo to:

We have no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive riders. You can report a ride, photo or rider and block anyone from the app. We review reports within 24 hours, and may remove content, limit features or close the accounts of people who break these rules.

6. Your safety and your bike

Cycling carries real risk. Velo's numbers, maps, weather and maintenance reminders are information, not advice. Reminders are estimates worked out from the rides you record and the rules you set; a part can wear out sooner, and rides you don't record aren't counted. Inspect your bike, follow the manufacturer's guidance, have a qualified mechanic check anything you're unsure of, and obey traffic laws. Don't use the app while riding in a way that takes your attention off the road.

7. Other services

Velo works with services run by others, such as Apple (sign-in, maps and notifications), your Bryton bike computer, and Strava. Their own terms apply to them, and we're not responsible for what they do. Velo's Bluetooth link to the Bryton Rider 650 is unofficial and not made or supported by Bryton; an update to the unit can break it. Connecting Strava through its website login, rather than Strava's official API, is unofficial too: it may stop working at any time and may break Strava's terms, so it's off unless you turn it on, at your own risk.

8. Beta, changes and availability

Velo is in beta through TestFlight. Features may change, move or disappear, and the service may be down for maintenance or by accident. We back up your data but keep your own copies of anything you can't afford to lose, such as the ride files on your bike computer: Velo has no export yet. Velo is free while in beta. When we charge for it, you will be informed, and won't be charged for anything without consent.

9. Ending your account

You can delete your account from the app at any time. Your rides, photos and other content are then removed from the service, and if you signed in with Apple, Velo asks Apple to end that sign-in link. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts other riders at risk, and we'll tell you why unless the law or someone's safety prevents it.

10. No warranty and limits on liability

Velo is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, for injuries or damage from riding or from equipment, or for data you lose, and our total liability to you for anything to do with Velo is limited to the amount you paid us in the past 12 months (nothing, while Velo is free). Some places don't allow these limits, so they apply to you only as far as your local law permits.

11. Changes to these terms

We reserve the right to update these terms as we see fit. The date will reflect the most recent updates, and for significant changes, you will be informed before they take effect. Your continued use of Velo after the new terms have been implemented indicates your agreement. If you do not agree to the new terms, you must stop the use of Velo and delete your account.

12. Law and contact

These terms are governed by the State Laws of Indiana, and the Federal Laws of the United States, without regard to the conflict-of-law rules. Any legal disputes will be heard in the proper jurisdiction, as required by law and the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. Questions about these terms: [email protected].

Apple is not a party to these terms and isn't responsible for Velo or its content.
